Howell Thomas Heflin (born June 19, 1921 in Poulan, Georgia; died March 29, 2005 in Sheffield) was a Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and a three-term United States Senator.

Heflin, the son of Marvin Rutledge and Louise D. Strudwick Heflin of Georgia graduated from Colbert County High School in Leighton. He earned his bachelor of arts in 1942 at Birmingham-Southern College. He served in the US Marine Corps in World War II, earning a Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He was discharged in 1946 and completed his Juris Doctorate at the University of Alabama School of Law in 1948.
