Integrated Medical Systems
Integrated Medical Systems International, Inc. (IMS) is a consulting and management firm specializing in maintaining surgical instruments for medical clients. The company tests, repairs and refurbishes medical equipment and provides management, training and planning services to more than 2,500 hospitals and clinics across the country. The company employs 850 people, 300 of which are based in the Birmingham area.
IMS was founded in 1991 by Gene Robinson, who is President and CEO of the privately-held company. Its first offices were located on Morris Avenue. IMS now has annual revenues of more than $80 million and more than 600 employees at its IMS Corporate Campus on 2nd Avenue South in Birmingham. The company also operates repair centers in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Phoenix, Arizona.
The company consolidated its Birmingham operations to a 10-acre site in the Sloss Business District in 2011. The $7.5 million development involved renovations to its existing repair building and to the adjacent former Noland Building, as well as construction of new facility for its subsidiary Wedge Manufacturing, which carries out high-precision machining. Robinson's non-profit Instruments of Mercy also shares space at IMS' campus.
