Jerry K. Tate is an information systems manager active in Birmingham City Schools parent-teacher associations and an executive board member of the Birmingham Education Foundation.

Tate graduated from Marengo High School and earned his bachelor of science in computer information systems at Alabama State University and served as a lieutenant and nuclear-biological-chemical specialist in the U. S. Army. He has also served as Sunday School superintendent for Bethel Missional Baptist Church.

Tate is running for Birmingham Board of Education District 1 in the 2013 Birmingham municipal election. He has been a supporter of embattled superintendent Craig Witherspoon
