John W. Stewart III

John Wesley Stewart III (born 1952 in Southern Delaware) is the 15th president of the University of Montevallo, inaugurated on October 14, 2010.

Stewart earned his bachelor's degree in history from Wake Forest University and a master's in English from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. He worked for his family's pipeline contracting business before moving to Hattiesburg, Mississippi so that his son could attend a special school for the hearing impaired. He taught at William Carey University there, and completed a Ph.D. in English at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2003.

After leaving Mississippi, Stewart worked at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. He was vice president for institutional advancement for Flagler College in St Augustine, Florida from 2005 until he was hired at Montevallo on May 15, 2010.

Stewart is not related to the 12th president of Montevallo, John W. Stewart, who served from 1988 until 1992.
