Lake Purdy

Lake Purdy is a 990-acre reservoir created in 1923 by the impoundment of the Little Cahaba River by the Lake Purdy Dam in Shelby County. It is owned by the Birmingham Water Works Board and used as a secondary source of drinking water for its 600,000 customers in the Birmingham area.

No private boats are allowed on the lake, as a precaution against the introduction of invasive plant species. A lakeside store on Alabama State Highway 119 does have some boats for rent, and boaters can bring their own outboard motors.

The Grant's Mill Road bridge over Lake Purdy, constructed in 1935, is in disrepair.
