Oak Mountain High School, located at 5476 Caldwell Mill Road, is the newest high school in the Shelby County School System. It was completed in 1999, graduating its first class in 2000. The school, designed for 1,500 students with the capability of expanding for 2,000, currently serves approximately 1,650 students. Former principal Randy Fuller resigned in October 2006 to become Superintendent of Shelby County Schools. In March 2007 Joan Doyle, principal of Fayetteville High School, was named as his replacement.
The 216,000 square foot building was designed by Mobile architects Volkert & Associates and was built by Doster Construction on the school's sprawling 62 acre campus which also includes Oak Mountain Intermediate School.
The auditorium seats 1,000, and the competition gymnasium seats 2,000. A stadium nearby on Highway 119 seats 5,000 for football and track & field. The athletic teams are known as the "Oak Mountain Eagles". The marching band is the "Spirit of Cahaba", and the school colors are red, white and blue.
