The furry monster was created by ___ Young, wife of UAB vice president Jerry Young. The costume was revealed during a game, after the student wearing the costume was carried to mid-court inside a closed box. The crowd reaction was unenthusiastic and the role of mascot was taken up by Frank Sutherland's Beauregard T. Rooster character the following season.
