Priscilla Dunn
Priscilla Dunn (born October 8, 1943) is a former three-term Alabama State Legislator and currently represents Alabama Senate District 19, having won a special election to complete the term of E. B. McClain after his bribery conviction.
Dunn has a bachelor of science in education from Alabama State University and a master of arts in education from the University of Montevallo. She worked as a teacher, but has retired from the classroom. She still works as the homeless education coordinator for Bessemer City Schools. She is also president of the Concerned Citizens of Bessemer Cut-Off.
She was elected to represent Alabama House District 56 in 1998 and subsequently re-elected to two additional terms. She was twice named "Legislator of the Year" in the house. Dunn is also on the board of directors for the Bessemer Civic Center and on the advisory board of the Jefferson/Shelby Counties American Cancer Society.
She defeated Merika Coleman in a runoff to take McClain's Senate seat in June 2009. She outspent her opponent $41,359 to $14,131. Her primary goal when she stated her candidacy was to lower the age at which children are required to attend school from 7 to 5.
Dunn and her husband Grover have one daughter. They attend Shady Grove Baptist Church.
