Robert V. Carter (born c. 1935) is an adjunct professor in Alabama State University's School of Education.

Carter earned his bachelor's degree in English and history at Alabama A&M University in 1956 and then completed a master's degree in education at Alabama State University in 1961 and a master's in theology at the former Alabama Christian School of Religion in Montgomery in 1984.

Carter has worked as a teacher, assistant coach, principal, professor, academic dean and administrator. He was involved in the political campaigns of Don Siegelman, Joe Reed and Donald Watkins.

Carter challenged incumbent Virginia Volker for the Birmingham Board of Education, District 2 in the 2009 election. He lost by a wide margin.
