Shades Crest Road (Jefferson County Road 97) is a long, mostly residential road running parallel with the crest of Shades Mountain, from Rocky Ridge Road near U.S. Highway 280 on the northeast end, to John Hawkins Parkway (Alabama State Highway 150) in Hoover.
From there, South Shades Crest Road (Jefferson County Road 2) continues into northern Shelby County, just short of the gap where Shades Creek crosses the ridge of Shades Mountain in Bibb County.
