The Shades Mountain elevator was a proposal for a public elevator tower, designed as a speculative project by Chicago-based architect Conrad Bryant Schaefer and published in The Birmingham Magazine in October 1915.

The picturesque design depicted a masonry tower protruding from a "watchtower cliff," with a rusticated archway at the base and Venetian gothic detailing at the top.
