Steve Sayler is the finance director for the City of Birmingham. He served as Director of Finance for Jefferson County from 1989 to his retirement in August 2007. In his role with the county he evaluated bond issues and other proposals from investment advisors to the county and made recommendations to members of the Jefferson County Commission.

In 2007 Sayler was subpoenaed to testify in the SEC investigation into Jefferson County bond swaps. He was subsequently hired by former County Commission president and new Mayor of Birmingham Larry Langford for the position with the city.
