Stuart Cathey

Stuart Allen Cathey (born April 1, 1962) is a jewelry designer and artisan.

Cathey grew up in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. As a teenager he made and sold sharktooth necklaces which were sold at beachfront souvenir stands. He apprenticed as a gold and silversmith with Jay Lubeck through high school. He interviewed with a Birmingham-based jewelry manufacturer, but then decided to open his own studio in 1981 in the Signature House owned by Malcolm McRae at 1312 Cobb Lane. The business grew slowly into Stuart Cathey Goldsmything, expanding into more space on the house's upper floor. Cathey recommended that McRae employ his friend Gerald Wayne Lawley to paint Signature House, and it was Lawley who later murdered McRae in 1983.

Cathey later relocated to Providence, Rhode Island and New York, New York. He has served on the board of directors for the Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America.
