The UAB Humanities Building (originally University College Building No. 3) at 900 13th Street South was part of the first major building project undertaken in 1970 for the development of a College of General Studies at UAB. Ground was broken at the site of the building in 1971 and it was completed by Dunn Construction Co, Inc. in 1972.

The building was renamed the "Humanities Building" in 1983.
