The UAB Technology Innovation Center is located at the intersection of 17th Street South and 9th Avenue South and is a data center that houses UAB Campus internet connectivity and technology infrastructure. The 40,000-square-foot, $26.5 million building was constructed in 2020 and was designed to replace the Rust Computer Center, which formerly housed campus IT infrastructure. A ground-breaking ceremony for the facility was held on August 14, 2019.

It houses an innovative and cost-efficient Tesla Powerpack battery system that increases system reliability and availability while reducing the carbon footprint and a number of innovative features to meet the technology needs of UAB students, faculty, researchers and clinicians.
