Walter G. Harris (born c. 1936) was a former superintendent of Birmingham City Schools and chief of staff for former Birmingham mayor Richard Arrington Jr.

Harris earned a master of arts at Florida A&M University and a doctorate in education at the University of Florida. He was the first African American to serve as superintendent of Birmingham schools, and was the center of much controversy. After leaving the system in 1988 he served as chief administrative assistant and chief of staff in Arrington's administration. He was succeeded as superintendent by Cleveland Hammonds.
