William Poole

William Ellenburg Poole (born July 27, 1929 in Leeds - died February 24, 1998) was an architect in Birmingham from 1947 to 1982.

Poole studied engineering at the University of Alabama for two years before transferring to Auburn to complete a bachelor of architecture in 1953. He took a job as a draftsman for the Birmingham firm of Van Keuren and Davis before serving in the military from 1954 to 1956.

Upon his return from the service, Poole worked as a draftsman for Edward Paul, Jr. He left to join the firm of Pembleton and Mims as an associate in 1959. Two years later he and fellow associate George Gaunt were made partners in the firm, but Poole soon left to open his own practice.

He took on various partners, practicing as Poole and Pardue, Poole, Pardue, Morrison and Dean, and then Poole, Pardue and Morrison until, in 1982, he moved to Altamont Springs, Florida where he founded The Poole Partnership, specializing in educational and church facilities.

Poole died in 1998. An unrelated North Carolina home designer named William E. Poole operates a large houseplan service.
