2007 West Jefferson County plane crash

The 2007 West Jefferson County plane crash was a fatal aviation accident that occurred in heavy forest a mile and a half off of Mud Creek Road near Mud Creek Baptist Church in the Adger, Mud Creek area of western Jefferson County on Friday, February 2, 2007. The Cessna 172 plane was occupied by pilot Larry Masters, 63 and wife Suzanna, 44, en route from their home in Hornersville, Missouri to Marathon, Florida. No flight plan had been filed. Authorities were alerted to the possibility of a downed plane over the weekend. A cell tower in Hueytown picked up a signal from one of the victim's mobile phones shortly after 6:00 PM. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department used Star 1, the department's helicopter, to search for the crash site. It was found on the afternoon of Monday, February 5. Both occupants were found dead at the scene. No odor of gasoline was present.
