The Alabama Dance Festival is an annual event organized by the Alabama Dance Council which features dance performances, classes, workshops and professional development for artists and educators. The first festival was held in 1998 in Montgomery, but it moved permanently to Birmingham in 2003. Since 2008 the festival has sponsored a day of free dance classes for the public. Auditions for state and regional dance companies are also held. A featured dance company from out of state typically performs several times during the festival.

In 2020 the festival hosted the premiere of "Migratuse Ataraxia", a site-specific piece, which included a curated dinner service, performed by Wideman/Davis Dance at the Klein-Wallace House in Harpersville. That year the festival also debuted an Alabama Screendance Festival of filmed performances.
