The Alabama School Choice and Student Opportunity Act is a state law, first passed as Act of Alabama 2015-3 and subsequently amended, which provides for the creation, operation, and funding of public "charter schools."

The initial act, signed by Governor Robert Bentley on March 19, 2015, established the Alabama Public Charter School Commission. Charter schools allowed under the act are operated by non-profit organizations under contract with either a local public school board or with the Commission. Such operators can then contract with private "education service providers" to develop and implement instructional and administrative practices.

Act of Alabama 2023-420, passed during the 2023 Alabama legislative session, made several administrative changes to the law, including to the terms of service of the Commission members, and to the responsibilities of authorizers.
