The Amerex Corporation is located in Trussville and is one of the world's largest manufacturers of fire extinguishers. Its 310,000-square-foot facility at at 7595 Gadsden Highway turns out over 2.5 million commercial and industrial fire extinguishers each year and employs over 500 people. Amerex products can now be found in all 50 states and in countries across the world.

History

Amerex was founded in 1971 by Ned Paine and his business partner George Baureis. From its humble beginnings, the enterprise has since grown into a major corporation with revenues topping $100 million by 2005. On September 30, 1999, Ned Paine retired from the company he founded 28 years earlier. In November 1999 McWane Inc. of Detroit purchased the company and it now operates as an an affiliate of McWane Inc..
