Auto Movies No. 1 was the first drive-in cinema in the Birmingham area, and is said to have been only the 17th opened in the United States. The company was incorporated on May 23, 1939 by Lewis and Margaret Worthington.

The outdoor theater, which could accommodate 75-100 cars, was located at 605 Bessemer Super Highway in Midfield, on the present site of the Woodfield Square shopping center. At one point the owners provided metal screens to block the glare from the electrified Super Highway.

The drive-in continued to operate into the late 1960s.
