David Chapman

David Chapman was dean of the Howard College of Arts and Sciences at Samford University from 2001 to 2016. He had previously served as an associate dean under Rod Davis. A professor of English, he joined Samford's faculty in 1990. As associate dean he helped implement the university's new core curriculum in 1997. As dean he directed new attention to the college's namesake John Howard. He was succeeded by Tim Hall.

After stepping down as dean, he served until 2020 as professor of English and then retired to a lake-side home near Charlotte, North Carolina.
