The Flag of Sumiton

The Flag of Sumiton was created in 2012 to represent Sumiton during the Alabama Sports Festival Foundation banquet in 2012.

The flag was designed by Austin Glover, the winner of a contest for students at Sumiton Elementary School and Sumiton Middle School sponsored by the Sumiton Area Veteran's Board and the Sumiton City Council. Glover was among six finalists who presented their ideas to the council at a regular meeting. His design was announced as the winner at Sumiton's Awards Day in late May.

Glover included the phrase "building a better community by working together through faith, education and business," on his design. The actual flag created based on Glover's drawing is solid blue, imprinted with a circular white seal with images of the United States flag, the Seal of Alabama, Jefferson County seal and Walker County seal. Arrayed around the U.S. flag are shapes either alluding to the city's coal mining history or to its schools. The white circle is bordered by a gold band, and the words "City of Sumiton, Alabama" appear in white in an arc over the seal.

Davis was invited to bear the flag created from his design at the Sports Festival Foundation event at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
