Greater Birmingham Area Educational Television Commission

The Greater Birmingham Area Educational Television Commission was an organization which provided programming for Alabama Public Television's WBIQ-TV, Channel 10, when it first went on the air in 1955.

Evelyn Walker directed the project as a whole. Three Birmingham City Schools faculty members produced the original line-up of three types of programming. Ella Will McKinney produced and hosted the "Learning is Fun" programs intended for classroom use for first through third-graders. Sarah Nesbitt produced adult education programs in collaboration with the Jefferson County Department of Health and other public health bureaus, initially focusing on infant and child-care topics. Eugene Sample produced programming for pre-school age children, especially those about to enter the school system.

The University of Alabama and Alabama Polytechnic Institute also provided original programming, which complemented the station's library of instructional films.
