Magic Bagel & Deli was a New York-style bagel bakery and delicatessen opened in 1993 by nuclear engineer Pete Werner, a New York City native who attended Jacksonville State University and UAB, and then moved to Hartselle after leaving business.

Werner briefly owned an Italian restaurant in New York in the 1980s. He collected recipes for bagels and cheesecake there before acquiring a bagel oven and leasing space in the Clairmont Plaza South shopping center.
