O. T.'s Neighborhood Sports Grill
O. T.'s Neighborhood Sports Grill was a bar and restaurant located at 720 29th Street South in Lakeview. It was owned by Wayne Ellis and, like its neighbor, Lou's Pub and Package Store, was one of the few establishments licensed to serve alcohol at outdoor tables abutting the sidewalk. The restaurant's name was derived from Ellis' nickname, "Old Timer".
O. T.'s was established in 2001. It closed in August 2008 and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation, citing debts in excess of $100,000 and assets of less than $50,000.
O. T.'s served a variety of steaks, seafood, sandwiches and salads. It offered daily "meat and three" specials for lunch and stayed open for late-night dining. The kitchen was known for its po' boy-style "O. T. Burgers", crawfish pie, fried pickles, oysters and onion straws. The restaurant also offered private dining and catering services.
In April 2010, Ellis was brought in by the owners of O. T.'s on Acton in the Dolly Creek Station shopping center in Vestavia Hills to recreate the O. T.'s menu and atmosphere. Ellis left that September to return to Kelley's Neighborhood Sports Grill in O. T.'s former Lakeview spot. The The Vestavia restaurant changed its name to "G. T.'s" , then closed in January 2011.
