Southern Building Code Congress

The Southern Building Code Congress, later the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI) is a former Birmingham-based organization which compiled and published model building codes used by local governments to protect public safety.

The Southern Building Code Congress was created in 1940 and developed and published the first Southern Standard Building Code (later shortened to Standard Building Code) in 1945.

The organization originally kept offices in the Brown Marx Building, later moving to their own building on Montclair Road.

The group also published a journal entitled Southern Building Official.

In 1994 the SBCCI merged with the Building Officials Code Administrators International (BOCA) and the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) to form the International Code Council, which maintains a divisional office in Birmingham.
