Trotwood Park is a small residential subdivision located east of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport and north of I-59, that served as a track for harness racing in the late 19th century.
The race track was operated by Charlie and Susie Graham, whose house was raised 12 feet off the ground so that its long veranda could be used as a grandstand and the space underneath as stables.
The 100-acre property then owned by the Birmingham Matinee Club, was sold in December 1904, but the buyer never produced the payment. The purchaser claimed that the property was mortgaged and could not be sold unencumbered as required by his contract.
