Veterans Memorial Park (Hanceville)
Veterans Memorial Park is a public park located south of Hanceville High School's athletic fields and north of Mud Creek, accessed from Stadium Street off of U.S. Highway 31 (Main Street Northwest) in Hanceville. The park features a 2.7 acre fishing pond encircled by a half-mile paved walking trail.
The park is dedicated to veterans of all wars. It is adorned with memorial plaques, a U.S. flag, and a decommissioned gun. A park pavilion covers a fishing pier on the northern shore of the pond. The city imposes a limit of five fish per day from the pond.
Hanceville installed fitness equipment at intervals along the walking trail in September 2011. In 2012 the city purchased an adjoining 2.5-acre parcel southwest of the park, formerly the site of Chamblee Mill, from SRB Servicing, Inc. for use as a storage facility for city equipment.
In 2017 Hanceville mayor Kenneth Nail wrote to New Orleans, Louisiana mayor Mitch Landrieu to request that the Confederate monuments removed from public display in New Orleans be donated to Hanceville for display at the Veterans Park.
