The Dixie Bowl was a New Year's Day college football bowl game held at Legion Field in Birmingham. The game was only held twice, following the 1947 and 1948 seasons, after which it was discontinued. Both games featured teams from the Southern Conference and the Southwest Conference, with the SWC representative winning each one.
In July 1949 it was announced by promoters Carl Wiegand of the American Legion and Leo Burson of Memphis that no game would be played the following January. The demise of the contest was partially blamed on a 1949 decision by the Southeastern Conference to allow its teams to play only in the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl games.
