Moncrief Cemetery was established around 1872 in Gardendale on land donated by homesteaders Elijah Moncrief and James Moncrief.
It is believed that some of the earliest settlers of Gardendale are buried here. The earliest grave marker is of John Wesley Gillespie, born 1852; died 1872.
