2006 Birmingham homicides

This is a List of murders in Birmingham in 2006. It will include homicide cases occuring within the city limits during the calendar year. Birmingham had 105 homicides in 2005, 64 in 2004, 108 in 1997.

Deaths can be classified as homicides if they come at the hands of another, intentional or not. Vehicular accidents are usually only classified as homicide if intentional.

Shelby County had 6 in 2005, 4 in 2004, 5 in 2003, 5 in 2002, and 6 in 2001.

As of Feb 15. 5 other homicides were committed in south Birmingham, 2 in southwest Birmingham, 6 in west Birmingham and 2 others were murdered in north Birmingham

4. January 4: George Capers, transient, age 43, found in vacant lot in 7400 block of 67th St S (Gate City) - unclassified death (3) [3]
5. January 7: Curtis Sheppard, 43, shot in chest at home on 508 Center St S. no arrest (4) [4]
6. January 9: James Barnes, 21 of Tuscaloosa shot at 2729 Jefferson Ave, no arrest (5) [5]
7. January 15: David Gantt, 42, shot at 1300 block 6th Place S, Center Point (in Bham). Edgar Jackson, 48 in custody
8. January 17: Tawfig Sharif, 27, found inside store at 40th St W., Moshen Musa, 16, on bond (7) [6]
9. January 18: unidentified woman found drowned in Westover area, suspected homicide (8)
10. January 22: L'Oreal Nichole Bussey, 27, found shot at 829 28th St SW Birmingham. Michael J. Mays suspected. (8) [7]
11. January 22: Reginald Matthew Taylor, 29, shot in southwest Birmingham. Michael J. Mays suspected. (9) [8]
12. January 22: Allen Dunn, 22, hit by bullet during robbery outside Mike's Crossroads, 1010 3rd Av N (11) [9]
13. January 23: Antonio King, 21, shot by 71-year old grandmother in yard of 500 Princeton Ave. SW (10) [10]
14. January 28: Leonard Mixon, 33, shot in 500 block of 36th St N. Neikro Hurst of Bessemer charged.
15. February 2: Milton Poole, 16, killed at 19th St & Avenue V, Ensley, 2 suspects charged (12) [11]

26. March 22: Alan Potts, 55, found shot in restaurant, 3813 Clairmont (Forest Park-South Avondale)
27. March 28: Taurus Frost, 22, found shot in Impala parked at abandoned house in Ensley (24)
28. March 31: Timothy Woods, 45, stabbed by wife, Angela, 3000 block of 29th Avenue North. (25) [22]
29. April 3: Infant Dakota Jackson (3 mos) killed at 718 Attalla Place in Wylam. Mother Tiffany Jackson, 24 is suspected. (26) [23]
30. April 7: Leviticus Campbell, 17, found on 6800 block of Higdon Road (Woodlawn/East Lake) (27) [24]
