The name was derived from the sign out front, which was not changed in favor of spending their limited funds on kitchen upgrades. Taco Mac was a bar and restaurant at 1914 11th Avenue South in Five Points South during the 1990s. It was part of a chain based in Atlanta, opened by two Buffalo, New York natives who opened a chicken wing restaurant in a former taco stand in the Virginia-Highlands area. The name was derived from the sign out front, which was not changed in favor of spending their limited funds on kitchen upgrades. The Birmingham location was opened in the former Five Points Theater building, which is today part of Surin West.
