The M. Miller Gorrie Construction Center is a 3-story, 35,555 square-foot classroom, lab and office building housing Auburn University's McWhorter School of Building Science. It was constructed in 2006 with support from employees of Brasfield & Gorrie, and named in honor of their chairman, Miller Gorrie.
The $6.4 million steel-framed, brick-clad building was designed by Everett Hatcher of CMH Architects and constructed as a joint venture between Brasfield & Gorrie and Parker Brothers Construction. It was the first building in the state to earn "Gold" certification from the U. S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. Key features of the building's environmentally-responsive design include expansive windows with external sunshades and highly-efficient lighting and plumbing systems. In order to facilitate the use of the building itself as a teaching tool, structural and mechanical systems were left exposed on the interior.
The building was also a 2007 merit award winner in the institutional category from the Alabama Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
