SouthPoint Bank is a Birmingham-based bank which opened in October 2005 with a branch at the Colonnade in Birmingham. The bank has plans to expand into the cities of Gardendale, Chelsea, Trussville and Pelham or Alabaster. Steve Smith is president and CEO of the bank which was formed by former SouthTrust Bank employees after the merger with Wachovia. SouthPoint's COO is John Tata, and Frank Battle is senior lender. Bank directors include insurance company executive David Bates III, attorney John Bolus, Dr. Chris Harmon and Rick Heartsill.
