Fat Sam's Sub Station

Fat Sam's Sub Station was a sandwich shop located at 1154 11th Ave South in Glen Iris near the UAB campus. It was opened in March 1990 by Salman "Sam" Shatara.

Fat Sam's was open from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM on weekdays and 11:00 to 5:00 on Saturdays. The restaurant's specialties included the "Kitchen Sink Sub" and "Fat Fries".

Shatara was badly injured in a vehicle accident in April 2016 and died a few weeks later. His sons, Mitri and Salman II kept the business going through October before the family decided to close so that the brothers could focus on college. The last day of business was October 15.
