The Thirsty Donkey is a restaurant and bar at 4100 4th Avenue South in South Avondale. The business was founded in Coral Bay, St John, U.S. Virgin Islands by Greg and Kathy Stein in April 2017. That location was destroyed by Hurricane Irma that September.

After a brief stay in Puerto Rico the couple made their way back to Alabama. The Steins were hired by a group of investors led by Charles Duggan to reopen and manage The Thirsty Donkey reopened in the former Rowe's Service Station location in June 2019.

The restaurant's menu was developed by chef Katie Craig to feature Caribbean seafood as well as vegetable-centered dishes with optional protein additions.

In March 2020 the Steins were fired and the restaurant closed temporarily.
