- I intend for this category to include sculptural works which are primarily intended to represent and memorialized the appearance of actual humans, rather than just art that includes human figures used for allegorical or other purposes. So Vulcan and Electra are not portraits, and neither are Civitas, Centurion or Venturian Man (even if the artists used human models), but Hippocrates and Cristoforo Columbo, even if idealized, are. Much harder to call are the Three Ministers Kneeling, Four Spirits (memorial), or Partners with Bear and Shug, which do honor actual humans, but to me aren't exactly portraiture (but I could go either way, honestly). Then there's the matter of how abstract you can get and still be categorized this way. I'd say the Tinsley Harrison sculpture and Hugh Daniel statue get increasingly abstract, but are still commissioned as representation of persons. And I say humans: Blaze is not a portrait statue, and neither is The Storyteller, but the Miss Fancy statue could be, if you don't limit the idea to humans. --Dystopos (talk) 11:54, 29 January 2024 (CST)
