FoodSource
FoodSource Lure Corporation is a manufacturer of edible, food-grade baits for a variety of species. The company is located at 3733 4th Terrace North.
FoodSource uses technology developed at Auburn University. Its investors include several Birmingham-area individuals, the S.C.O.U.T. Healthcare Fund and Bonaventure Capital. Its products are sold at major retailers such as Wal-Mart. It is best known for its fishing lures, but the company has developed wildlife vaccine delivery systems, gel hunting attractants and pet treats.
In August 2008, FoodSource received a $600,000, two-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop edible bait to deliver a Lyme disease vaccine to field mice. Later that month, they announced a partnership with Pennsylvania-based Liquid Fence Co. to develop a mole repellent to keep the rodents from destroying lawns and landscaped gardens.
