Westover (incorporated in 2001) is a city located along U.S. Highway 280 in northern Shelby County, between Chelsea and Harpersville. The current mayor is J. Mark McLaughlin.
Established in 1901, the town was officially incorporated on January 31, 2001 with a population of 961. It has since grown to a city of 2,200.
Government
Westover has a mayor/council system of government. The Westover Town Council consists of five seats, currently occupied by Sam Mann (Place 1), Larry Riggins (Place 2), Annette S. Tyler (Place 3), Andrea Hunter (Place 4), and Jeanne Champion Fisch (Place 5). The council meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at Westover Town Hall.
The town provides a public library, located within Town Hall, and a park, located behind Town Hall. The town has a pending request for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office to locate a substation within the town for police protection. Emergency services are provided by Westover Fire and Rescue Department.
