Argyle in 2010

Argyle is a 10-foot-tall aluminum sculpture by Craig Wedderspoon which debuted in Woods Quad at the University of Alabama in 2010. The 500 pound abstract sculpture is composed of 1,500 4" squares of aluminum welded into the appearance of a large twist of cloth, vaguely gourd-like in its overall shape.

Wedderspoon, chair of the sculpture program at the University, created the piece as a companion to "Soft"and "Untitled (Soft II)", which were installed at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Alabama in 2007 and 2008. All three pieces draw inspiration from textiles.
