The 2008 Rickwood Classic was the 13th in the annual series of "throwback" games played by the Birmingham Barons in vintage-style uniforms at Birmingham's historic Rickwood Field. The Barons played the Jacksonville Suns on May 28. The Barons won 4-2 against the Suns on an overcast day.

Birmingham took a 2-1 lead in the first inning on a Javier Castillo home run that drove in David Cook, who reached base on balls. Jacksonville came back with three runs in the fifth to finish the scoring. Matt Berezay scored on a Robert Valido throwing error. Then Adam Godwin and Ivan De Jesus scored on a line-drive single by Jamie Hoffman.

Attendance was announced at 7,515

For the game, the Barons honored their years as an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox from 1951 to 1952. Former Baron Jimmy Piersall, an outfielder on the 1951-52 teams and 17-year Major Leaguer, was in attendance at the game.

The home team Barons wore gray uniforms with "Birmingham" written across the chest in blue script, and the hats featured the red and black Boston Red Sox "B". The Suns wore the uniforms of their 1967 team which featured Nolan Ryan. The first 1,500 fans received a vintage portrait of Piersall from the 1952 season. The game was presented by State Farm Insurance.
