The Alabama Blues Project was founded in 1995 to promote the appreciation and knowledge of blues music in the state. The group sponsors programs, concerts, workshops and residencies at schools, holds after-school and summer blues camps, and is developing an archive of music, archival material and teaching resources

The offices of the Alabama Blues Project are located at 712 25th Avenue in Northport. The executive director is Debbie Bond.
