There he received a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduating he went to work as a mechanical engineer. The company he worked for in Augusta, Georgia relocated him to [[Birmingham]] in [[1989]].

Ashfaq Hussain Taufique (born c. 1950 in Karachi, Pakistan) is a retired mechanical engineer and, since 1989, president of the Birmingham Islamic Society.

Taufique attended a Catholic missionary school in Karachi. he moved to the United States in January 1975 to attend the University of Texas at Arlington. There he received a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduating he went to work as a mechanical engineer. The company he worked for in Augusta, Georgia relocated him to Birmingham in 1989.

In addition to the Birmingham Islamic Society, Taufique also serves on the board of Greater Birmingham Ministries. In 2017 he was named to the inaugural class of Leadership Hoover.
