Benjamin Greene (born 1920 in Macon County; died October 29, 2006) was a former president of the Jefferson County Citizens Coalition and commissioner of the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District.
Greene was the fourth of seven children born to Reverend Lindsey Greene and his wife, the former Alice Woods. After the family moved to Birmingham he attended Birmingham City Schools. He went on to study at the Zamora Radio and Television Institute, and to remain there as an instructor for several years. He married the former Ann Royster and had nine children.
Greene worked for the Alabama Power Company for nearly four decades, except for a three-year stint in the U.S. Army during World War II. After retiring from the utility he was hired as an assistant to Birmingham Mayor Richard Arrington.
Greene served as president of the Harriman Park Civic League, and later of the Harriman Park neighborhood association.
