Birmingham Bulls
The Birmingham Bulls was the name of at least two separate professional hockey teams that played in the Birmingham area.
First incarnation (1976-1981, 1983)
The first team to bear the Bulls name was previously known as the Toronto Toros. The Toros' bull logo was retained. The team played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1976 to 1979. Home games were held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center (BJCC). In 1979 the WHA folded and the team was supposed to disband. However, it returned the in the 1979-1980 season as part of the Central Hockey League (CHL) and remained in Birmingham until 1981, when the team folded. In 1982, a team called the Birmingham South Stars played a single season in the CHL. 1983 saw the return of a team called the Bulls using the same logo as before as part of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League, but they only played three games before folding.
Second incarnation (1992-2001)
In 1992, a new Birmingham Bulls team debuted as part of the East Coast Hockey League. They also called the BJCC their home ice until 2001, when they transferred to Atlantic City.
