The Birmingham Sailing Club was founded in June 1963 with 44 charter members. The purpose of the club is to provide members with a place to sail, and to promote sailing, improve sailing skills, and one design racing.
The club house, docks, and launch ramps were constructed in the Fall of 1963, just prior to the damming of the Coosa River by Logan Martin Dam. On July 16, 1964 the water reached the bottom of the club's first launch ramp.
The club is a not for profit organization located on 9 acres of land about 2 miles from up from the dam. The club has numerous one design and open regattas every year, as well as hosting the Leukemia Cup Regatta. Current one design fleets include Snipes, Thistles, Flying Scots, and J22s.
