The Birmingham Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (Birmingham SMSA) was a United States Census-designated area. It comprised Jefferson, Shelby, and Walker counties for a total land area of 2,727 square miles.

The designation has since been replaced by the larger Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area.
