Box Row is a proposed multi-tenant retail and office development for the site of the Star Motel at 4121 3rd Avenue South in Avondale.

The $4.3 million project was proposed by Robert Ferrara of Blue Oak Development. The 3-level, 14,440 square foot building would be constructed principally of repurposed shipping containers. It would have space for 12 office tenants and as many as 39 retail shops, some of which could be combined or adapted for food service.

Architect for Box Row is Design Initiative, with Kyle Tyree of Locke General Contractors as general contractor. The project is scheduled for opening in Fall 2016.

Operation of the complex is to be modeled after the Box Park shops in London, England. Basic leasing rates will range from $800/month for small boxes to $1,200/month for larger boxes with kitchens.
